George Frederick Clark was born in Culford on 4th March 1923 (Bury St Edmunds Q1-1923 4A:1648) son of Frederick George and Ellen CLARK (née FRANCIS).

He had a sister, Muriel (1926-1989). In the 1939 register his parents and sister were at Bury Road, Culford (1 closed record)

George was flying in Avro Lancaster MkIII, ser no ED841, c/s AS-L of 166 Squadron, took off at 17:30 from RAF Kimmington, near Brigg in Lincolnshire on a raid of nearly 900 aircraft on Berlin. 48 aircraft were lost, ED841 being shot down and crashing near Freudenberg, about 40 miles east of Cologne, killing all the crew except one.They were:-
Pilot-F/O Raymond ROBINSON; Navigator- Sgt George CLARK; Air Bmr- F/Sgt Raymond SMITH; W.Op Ag- F/Sgt Donald STOKES; Air Gnr- Sgt Norman JONES; Air Gnr F/O Basil WRIGHT
Flight Engineer- Sgt H.K. HARRISON survived and was taken prisoner.
